Commissioning
an
Oil Portrait
Oil portraits vary in size and composition depending on the
clients desire. The artist prefers to paint from a combination of
live sittings and photographic references. The average time for
production of a single-figure portrait is approximately two
months.
These prices are guidelines for portraits of
single individuals only, and indicate a portrait painted with a
simple color-toned background. To have an
interior or exterior scene painted behind a figure
in a three-quarter or full figure painting, please
add an additional 40%.
To ensure placement on project calendar, clients are encouraged to book portraits six
months to one year in advance of the
desired completion date. A nonrefundable twenty percent (20%) deposit is required.
Upon booking, initial photography sessions
are promptly scheduled for pose consideration. Once a specific pose
is chosen, a series of five or more 2-3 hour live sittings are
required of adult and teen subjects. Very young
children are not required to sit beyond photography session.
The portrait images
shown on this page indicate samples of three
traditional approaches to portrait composition: head
and shoulder, half or three-quarter length, and
full-figure.
