David Tanner is an experienced art
instructor, having taught drawing and painting courses at the
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School and the Visual Arts
Center of Richmond, among other Virginia venues. Tanner is currently
an Artist-in-Residence with the Virginia Museum’s Statewide
Partnership Program, instructing painting workshops throughout the
Commonwealth of Virginia.
Private painting and drawing lessons, as well as portfolio
consultation and critique, are available and can be arranged by
contacting the artist. Semi-private, small group lessons in figure
painting and drawing are limited to five students and meet in
Tanner’s Museum District studio. Tanner is also available for
lectures and judging art competitions.
Year-round classes in basic oil painting, the figure in oil, and
the figure in charcoal are offered for adults at both the Visual
Arts Center of Richmond (formerly known as Hand Workshop) and the
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School. These classes are
offered in both day and evening sessions. Classes generally run for
8 to 10 weeks, meeting once a week, and are divided in Fall,
Winter/Spring, and Summer sessions. Registration in advance is very
important, as most classes are limited to under fifteen students.
During the summer months only, youth classes in basic drawing and
painting are offered at these venues and at Virginia Commonwealth
University (known as Summer Discovery). Registration for classes is
made by contacting the organizations listed below. Schedules are
available by mail or online. All venues are located in Richmond,
Virginia.
